Nichols Brothers Boat Builders, located in Freeland, Washington, have been building vessels for people who ride or work on the water for over four generations. During those four generations, the welding crew at Nichols Boats have been loyal users and vocal supporters of the MK Products’ Cobra Gold welding gun.

Introduced nearly 15 years ago, Nichols Brothers has anywhere from 120 to 130 Cobra Gold systems in use daily. However, nothing lasts forever, even though it seems like the Cobra Gold has.

It’s now time for Nichols Boats to “Launch” into the next generation welding torch developed by MK Products: the Cobra® MX.

At Nichols Boats, this new Cobra MX welding gun will be responsible for STEEL as well as ALUMINUM welding.

Nichols Brothers started the transition from the Cobra Gold to the Cobra MX about six months ago.

According to Scott Stacia, Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the MX is a very "dependable" Gun. “The overall design, steady feed and positive drive system, make this gun a must-have in the shipyard”. When maintenance is required, “It’s easy to work on."

He went on to say "We will continue to transition from the Cobra Gold to the Cobra® MX until all guns in the yard are MXs”.

The Cobra MX is available in 15, 25, 35 and 50 foot lengths and is offered in Air Cooled or Liquid Cooled models. Additionally, the gun is offered in the “Classic Cup” (1/4” contact tip & cups) and the “Max Cup” (3/8” contact tips & cups).
